Sauna Ceiling Height: the Ideal Formula

Sauna Ceiling Height: the Ideal Formula

There have been many posts online about the sauna ceiling height. Most people take 7 feet high ceiling as sufficient, while for others anything below 8 feet is not acceptable. In the article below, I will try to give you my view on this subject.

Sauna ceiling dimension is determined by the number of bench levels you are planning to install.

Key Rules:
From the top of the top bench, to the ceiling the dimension should be from 100cm to 120 cm (40" to 47") The ideal dimension is 45"

The sauna benches should be 18" tall, except for the bottom one which can be smaller for easier access.

The two top benches should be both 18" because if they are each different height, it causes a person to misjudge the height and even potentially trip. No one likes walking on uneven stairs. ( Ever visited old castle ruins?)

Sauna Ceiling Height - 3 Bench Levels

If you are planning to build a 3 bench level sauna, then the ideal ceiling height is 99" or 8 feet 3 inches or (251cm). The ideal bench height for 3 bench level sauna is 18" each.

Sauna Ceiling Height - 2 Bench Levels

If you are planning to build a 2 bench level sauna, then the ideal ceiling height is 7'. The ideal bench height for the bench level sauna is 19" each.

Can sauna sectional design be even better?

Yes! The ceiling of the sauna can slope slightly towards the front. This will direct the heat backwards, giving you a better internal flow of hot air.

Check out the sectional image from our new project, the CUBE Sauna . The design for this sauna is available in our shop.
